Our extremely biased summary of traveling to Breck

Last updated 8/9/2023

Over the years we have frequently been asked by people who want to go to Breckenridge, CO. about traveling there and staying there. We plan on using this blog to go into more details as we have time. However, this is our executive summary to get started and is literally a cut-and-paste from emails we’ve sent to friends over the years.

Should you take a shuttle or rent a car? Check out this post for more information and our thoughts on the matter. Getting here…

We have always preferred to stay in the central town area. Our condo is up on 4 O’Clock Road, right across from the Snowflake Lift. Before the condo we usually stayed near the intersection of 4 O’Clock Road and South Park Avenue. This is a short walk to the Gondola or the Snowflake Lift. You can also walk over to the base of Peak 9 (it’s a little hike but very do-able). Plus, there are free shuttles that take you to all the places, too. Personally, if you want to be in a walk-able distance everything and centrally located, this is our favorite are to stay There are some really economical options and high-end options.

Restaurants

For food, Breck has tons of good restaurants. When you rent a condo they usually give you a dinning guide that lists all the main restaurants. Here’s a link to the website: Breckenridge Dining Guide.

Here is a summary of our favorites:

  • Fatties Pizzeria – this is a couple blocks off the beaten path and is a local’s favorite. It’s becoming our favorite, too.
  • Canteen – this is a great place for burgers and beer!
  • Downstairs at Eric’s – it’s a popular burger & pizza joint with TV’s everywhere playing sports. When we’ve been in town during the Super Bowl, this is the place to go.
  • Giampietros – this is a great pizza place. The calzoni are really good 🙂
  • The Briar Rose – this is a really nice upscale steak house. We go here for birthday’s and stuff.
  • Ember – this is a fun concept restaurant so the menu is constantly changing and we’ve always had good luck there.
  • Relish – we haven’t eaten here yet but it is on our list to try.
  • The Breckenridge Brewery – this is a fun brew pub/restaurant with great beer on tap and a good selection of traditional Americana food. Make sure you try the hot sauce! Update 1/27/2020 – We no longer recommend The Breckenridge Brewery. For the past few visits, both the service and the food have been awful. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Places to stay

Some of the condos that we really like are:

  • Pine Ridge Condos – really nice and convenient with a great stainless steel Jacuzzi.
  • River Mountain Lodge – They have a bar and restaurant plus a heated pool and 2 really nice hot-tubs.
  • Park Place – This place has a really neat hot-tub are with a gas fire-pit next to the hot-tubs. Some of the condos have awesome views of downtown Breck.

Curt and I have also stayed out at Highland Greens. There are 1 and 2 bedroom condos in the main building and there are also houses that you can rent. This one is located a few miles outside of Breckenridge but is puts you closer to to the middle of Breckenridge and Keystone if you want to go back-and-forth between the two mountains. Highland Greens has shuttles that take you to town and the mountains so you don’t even need to have a car when you stay here.

Rent your equipment

For a shop to rent your snowboard or ski gear, we recommend Lonestar Sports. Check out this blog post for our reasons.
